The Importance of Plot Bunnies

When I was a kid, I thought plot bunnies were actual bunnies.

Though I soon realized that I do indeed suffer from plot bunny syndrome (or, in other words, “too many ideas syndrome”), I originally thought that plot bunnies referred to a random thing happening in your story when you couldn’t think of anything else to happen. One time when I got really stuck in the middle of a story, I actually wrote something to the effect of: “and then a herd of plot bunnies came hopping across the hill and promptly scampered off.” (I might still have that draft somewhere??)

Whatever the meaning, since my NaNoWriMo days (may they rest in peace), I’ve always loved the phrase “plot bunnies.” When I was searching for just the right handle for my author Instagram, it kept popping into my head (like a plot bunny itself, funnily enough). But I wanted something a little more “me.”

That was when I realized my two cats are as distracting as any plot bunny.

Hence, my Instagram page was reborn as plot.kitties. There, you can find snapshots of my life as an indie author, snippets from my upcoming books, and yes, many cute cat pictures.

So if sometimes you like less words and more pics, follow me on Instagram! (I am not responsible for the distractions that cute cat pictures inevitably cause.)

When was the last time you had a plot bunny turn into a boon?

‘Til next time!
