Change Is Coming, and YOU Get a Say!

It’s a bit of a different post today—but please stick around because I need your help!

I’ve said time and time again that changes are coming to this blog, and after a lot of thinking, important decisions about where I’m going with my writing, and quite a bit of prodding from God, those changes are finally happening. What I don’t want to do is just change everything without warning; some of y’all have been following me for three years and I wouldn’t do that to you! Instead, I want you to be a part of this process.

What’s Changing?

Before we get to a very important poll at the bottom of this post, let me explain what’s going on:

  • I’m shifting gears with this website to only focus on advice for writers and indie authors. That means less short stories and freelance writing posts. I want to focus on one audience for this website, and it’s very clear to me that my calling is to help fiction writers and indie authors craft better stories.
  • My fiction stories, plus most of the promotion for my books and a reader newsletter, will be moving to a new website shortly (name TBD). This website will be for my readers only, though even if a writer, you’re of course welcome to visit and read my books and stories! There just won’t be any writing advice on the site (though there will likely be some behind the scenes looks at my writing process). By separating my reading and writing audiences, I hope to provide more targeted content to both and grow my business.
  • I won’t take down or change any posts that I’ve already published on this site; from your point of view, the only major changes will be what pages are still on the site and…

A New Name!

Yes! I’ve wanted to change the name of this website for a while now, but the process seemed too complicated to go through with it just because. Now, with all the changes I’m making, I know that the change is necessary. I’m still trying to figure out exactly what I’m doing, but let’s just hope I don’t destroy the whole site in the process…

Before I can really begin, I need your help with this site’s new name! As I mentioned, my goal is to focus on helping writers craft better stories, and I want the name of the site to reflect that. Since you’re the ones reading the content and interacting with the website, I’d love to get your input! Please, please vote in the poll below so I can get an idea of what people like:

Thanks for your help! And if you have a question big or small about any of this, leave a comment or contact me!

Happy writing!

Unfortunately, good stories don’t sell by default. As an indie author, I have to do all my marketing myself! My first marketing goal will take care of advertising costs for my upcoming middle-grade book. I need your help to make it happen! Thank you in advance, and God bless you! ♥️ E.J.

  1. I totally feel you on this one. I’ve been struggling with the same thing. My place is such a collection of randomness, that also is often meant for different audiences. I’ve considered splitting up into three or four blogs, but it seems impossible to host four different blogs on one website.

In your case, I wouldn’t say I ever found it bothersome. Most of your writing is about improving writing, and I think still fits in one category. However, further streamlining your niche will help you find a target audience I think. I’m curious to see where it will go! My vote is on StoryCraftHQ. The others are a bit too generic for my taste.

    • Four blogs would definitely be a LOT of work; I stand by what I’ve said before, I absolutely love your blog of randomness! 😁

And I’m glad to hear you’ve enjoyed all the writing randomness on my blog! While it does all fit in the same category, my issue currently is that I’m not reaching readers on this blog; I’m reaching other writers (which is great for the main purpose of the blog, but not helping much with my books). Going forward, I’m focusing more on writing and publishing my books, since that’s my greatest passion, so I really need to find that specific audience of readers.

This is the main motivation behind the switch, but I do think it will have the added benefit of providing both readers and writers with more of what they want! I’ve been thinking about this for a long time and after hearing several authors basically repeat my exact thought process, I decided it was a sign to make it happen.

Thanks for your support, as always!! I like StoryCraftHQ, too.

      • Yes the target audience of blogs and fiction writing can be very different I think. I rarely read fiction or short stories myself. Not because I don’t like them, more because I never got into it… 🙂
