I know that I don’t know everything about writing! There are so many great resources out there; here are some that I recommend and use often. (Note that I only use what’s free from these sites; here’s why I usually don’t recommend paying for writing courses.) Feel free to skip to whichever topic you need using the links below!
On Storytelling & Writing

The Story Grid site is one of my all-time favourite writing resources. It breaks down the “science” behind stories and shows you how good stories are made. Here’s my brief review.

Daniel David Wallace has so much great stuff on his site that I can’t even begin to name it all! I mainly enjoy his frequent free summits/online events and his focus on character-centric storytelling. Check out my review.

The Write Practice has lots of great free articles, a few free courses, an online writing community, and a page full of great writing resources (similar to this one!). Their emphasis is on—surprise— practice! See my review here!

Savannah Gilbo’s site has it all—including a podcast called Writing Made Easy! Her blog posts are pointed and helpful, and they often make Story Grid concepts easier to understand.

Helping Writers Become Authors, run by award-winning author K.M. Weiland, is absolutely crammed full of posts on any topic you could ever need as a writer. Her insights are thorough and valuable for every stage of the writing process!
Story Creation
I use Fantasy Name Generators almost every day. No matter what genre of fiction you’re writing, it’s useful for coming up with all kinds of names, from characters and places to animal species and fruits.

Editing Software & Refreshers

While it won’t catch everything, I almost always run my writing through Grammarly to catch any silly little mistakes I might have made. It’s helped me tighten up my sentences and identify my often-used filler words.

QuillBot AI is my close second choice when it comes to free grammar-checking software. It seems to understand fiction writing better than Grammarly and I sometimes prefer its word choices.

This Grammar Refresher from Excelsior Online Writing Lab is a great place to brush up on grammar—because as I always say, to write well, you must have a thorough understanding of how grammar works! This site breaks the grammar review into categories and has mini-classes for each one.
Everything Self-Publishing
Kindlepreneur is hands down the best and most thorough website on self-publishing that I’ve come across. The site’s owner, Dave Chesson, has been through the self-publishing trenches himself and understands the struggles. He has loads of content on his site—anything you could ever need to self-publish!
